Promoting health, well-being and healthy lifestyles is vital for all societies. The COVID-19 pandemic has stressed the need to cooperate and set the foundations for a European Health area, building capacity, scientific and technological resources in the multidisciplinary areas related to Global Health.

Through joint action and cooperation in interdisciplinary Education, Research and Innovation, EUGLOH looks to the future and contributes to respond to societal challenges in the Global Health area and train future generations of European Citizens and professionals. This is how EUGLOH can contribute to “Shaping the Future of Global Health and Well-being".

  • Round-Table: Multidisciplinary Global Health Challenges + Q&A

    Date: 14 Oct 2021 10:15 — 11:15 GMT

Location: University of Porto, Rectorate Historial Building (Praça Gomes Teixeira, 4099-002 Porto Portugal) & Online

In today’s era of globalisation, Global Health has become a subject of international concern, spanning from issues of public health and environmental protection to food security and healthy lifestyles. Yet, knowledge alone is not enough to tackle the challenges the world is facing today, most notably: climate change, access to clean energy, water, sanitation, health and welfare, human rights and migration, demographic ageing, uncontrolled urbanisation and social inequalities.

An appropriate response to these challenges must involve human capital and collective action. The EUGLOH Alliance aims at training the European professionals, innovators and experts of tomorrow to serve all sectors of society and at establishing a permanent dialogue between Education, Research,Innovation and Civil Society about Global Health. Partners propose a multidisciplinary approach to Global Health and Well-being, to improve the quality of life of the world’s population, by addressing public health problems and environmental challenges, contributing to human, cultural and socioeconomic advancement. European values, such as solidarity, equality of opportunities, inclusiveness, and respect for human rights are at the centre of EUGLOH’s vision.

In this session, selected speakers from different disciplinary perspectives will discuss how EUGLOH partners can become an international reference in Global Health and create effective synergies to ensure Education, Research and Innovation are mutually reinforcing for a stronger societal impact.

Location: University of Porto, Rectorate Historial Building (Praça Gomes Teixeira, 4099-002 Porto Portugal) & Online

Higher education across Europe is rapidly changing, with deep technological and structural changes affecting teaching and learning. Universities’ actions within the knowledge “square” ( Education, Research, Innovation and with Civil Society) contribute to their role as key actors in Europe, able to address big societal challenges and become true engines of development for cities, regions and countries. The European Universities are “transnational alliances that will become the Universities of the future, promoting European values and identity, revolutionising the quality and competitiveness of European higher education”(EC, European Universities Factsheet, 2019).

The European Universities Initiative aims to bring together students, academics and external partners to show that interdisciplinary teams are able to cooperate in order to tackle the biggest issues Europe is facing today. In this session, speakers will discuss how EUGLOH can better the engagement with external partners and build higher education ecosystems connected with the surrounding communities.
